“It is no use saying that we love our fellow men unless we try to help them, and it is no use pretending to sympathise with the heavy burdens which darken their lives unless we try to ease them and to lighten their existence.”

Short-term assistance is available for individuals and families facing a crisis - a sudden and stressful event resulting in a dramatic change in the way one’s life is lived. Women and children fleeing domestic violence can seek safety in one of our confidential domestic violence shelters. Families who do not have enough to eat are welcomed to visit one of our food banks. Individuals in danger of having their electricity shut off are eligible to receive financial assistance with their bills.

While short-term assistance plays a central role in getting people back on their feet, The Salvation Army’s ultimate goal is to guide our clients onto a path of stability and encourage them to grow in all aspects of their lives. Through long-term participation in our programs, clients develop tools essential in making a better life for themselves and their families: self respect, marketable skills and strength of character.
