The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 when William Booth decided to take his ministry into the streets. It was there, in the slums of London’s East End, that the Army found its calling and mission to reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. Today, the Army is recognized as both a part of the universal Christian church and as a leading social services organization. For nearly 150 years, The Salvation Army has been meeting human needs in 124 countries around the globe — including helping the community right here in Everett.

Each year, we serve people who have no place left to turn and we meet those human needs without discrimination. From basic needs such as food and shelter to helping neighbors struggling with substance addiction, domestic violence, or the impacts of disaster, we work to provide relief and restoration. The Salvation Army is changing — and saving — lives every day.

News

The ringing of bells and the sound of coins being dropped into the kettle are synonymous with Christmas. For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has been ringing bells and collecting donations — with the goal of sharing the joy of Christmas and helping those in need throughout the community.

The bell ringing season starts in late November and runs through Christmas Eve. Every day, Monday through Saturday, you’ll find Salvation Army volunteers raising money for the basic needs of neighbors who need help.

Can you spare a day or a few hours to help ring the bell and raise money for The Salvation Army in your community? Bring your friends, family, your club, or your church – the more, the merrier. Together we can make a difference for families in our community. It only takes one shift to raise enough money to provide two nights of shelter and four warm meals for the men, women and children who enter our doors every day.

If you are interested in volunteering as a bell ringer this Christmas season, please email NWvolunteer@usw.SalvationArmy.org.
