GivingTuesday - Cathy's Story
Cathy has had her share of challenges throughout her life. But, with the help of The Salvation Army, she is making great progress as an individual – and as a parent.
She’s struggled with addiction throughout her teen and adult years. Now, at age 32, she’s been sober for almost two years.
Cathy knows that she has so much to live for, but it’s difficult when it feels like the odds are against her. She works hart to be a good mother to her toddler daughter, and to earn back a relationship with her older daughter, whom she rarely sees.
Cathy came to The Salvation Army about 13 months ago – homeless and without a job. Our caseworkers helped her get back on her feet, including finding transitional housing for Cathy and her young daughter. She’s learning life skills need to be a better parent, and to get a job. Now, she’s on her way to independent living.
“Every day is a challenge,” says Cathy. “But I have faith in the future and confidence in myself.”
This time of year, Cathy looks forward to celebrating Christmas with her daughters. She received a few gifts from The Salvation Army, which she’ll give to her girls. “It will be nice to celebrate Christmas again with my daughters,” says Cathy. “I don’t know what I’d do without The Salvation Army.”
