The Salvation Army flagship store in SODO is now open on Sundays!

The store is located at 1010 4th Avenue. New shopping hours are 9am to 8pm (Monday through Saturday), and noon to 5pm (Sundays). The 36,000-square-foot store was recently renovated (October 2010) and its atmosphere resembles a discount department store - and contradicts the old reputation of a "thrift store."

Donations are also accepted at the location, 7:30am to 4pm (Monday through Saturday), and noon to 5pm (Sundays). The donation drop- off location is at the loading dock, immediately north of the store. Free parking is available for donors and shoppers. Donations of gently used clothing, furniture, housewares, and books are welcome.

The Salvation Army has a long tradition of operating successful Family Stores throughout the country. Each store, including the Downtown Seattle store in SODO, is operated as part of The Salvation Army's renowned Adult Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program. The program, with its Washington headquarters in Seattle, receives operating funds from the Family store. Last year, more than 1,200 men and women participated in the program, which includes physical, emotional, spiritual and professional rehabilitation.

The Seattle store was previously closed on Sundays, in honor of The Salvation Army tradition of attending church services on Sundays. However, as the economy continues to be challenging for many families, the need for affordable shopping options is important. Furthermore, many working families have limited days and times available for errands, and Sunday gives another opportunity for shopping.
