The Christmas season may have ended, but we are still glowing with the story of one man’s determination to “give back” to The Salvation Army.

Douglas Holladay, of Ogden, UT, has been battling terminal lung cancer for years and doesn’t expect to make it to Christmas 2014. Yet, his spirit is strong and his commitment to The Salvation Army is constant. He rang the bell and collected donations in red kettles outside of a local Walmart this past Christmas.

This is Douglas’ way of giving back to the organization that helped him during a low point of his life. “I suffered from alcoholism and drug addiction many years ago,” he said. “The Salvation Army was there for me when everyone else turned their back.”

Donors visited Douglas while he rang the bell, and filled three kettles with donations during his shift. Thank you, Douglas Holladay, for your selfless gift to The Salvation Army.
