As Thanksgiving comes to a close and a weekend of shopping kicks off the Christmas season, a new national campaign is underway to bring focus to an important need this season – giving to those in need.

“Giving Tuesday” was created to encourage people to take a break from shopping and consumerism, and consider giving to the many charities that help others throughout the community. It follows the major shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Social media has been a big part of communicating about the campaign, with #Giving Tuesday trending on Facebook and Twitter throughout the week.

“Giving Tuesday is a nice reminder to all of us, that many people in our community don’t need tangible items,” said Major Doug Tollerud, Salvation Army Divisional Commander. “Many people need food and shelter and other necessities, and making a donation to The Salvation Army will help us continue to provide to those families.”

So, please join The Salvation Army in this new holiday tradition – Giving Tuesday. You can make a donation HERE.
