The Salvation Army Northwest Division announces the appointment of Majors Bill and Lisa Dickinson as Divisional Commanders. The Division, with its headquarters in Seattle, serves the homeless, hungry, and helpless throughout Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana.

They replace Majors Doug and Sheryl Tollerud, who were recently appointed leaders of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers. They are now working at the organization’s headquarters in Long Beach, California.

The news of their move to the Northwest didn’t surprise the Majors Dickinson. As Salvation Army Officers, the Majors expect to be reassigned throughout their careers. The commitment of being an Officer includes moving your family frequently, and accepting reassignments based on career development and filling the needs of Salvation Army locations. The assignment in the Northwest Division is an acknowledgement of their ability to manage a large Division of 30+ locations with diverse programs, clientele, and geography.

“We are very happy to be in the Northwest,” said Major Bill Dickinson. “Here, The Salvation Army serves more than 600,000 people each year – but yet we still have new families coming to us for assistance. Our job is to ensure that no one is left without food, shelter, or hope for a better tomorrow. And, we need to raise the money to make it happen.”

Among the services offered in this Division are rent/utility/gas assistance, food pantry, clothing, disaster relief services, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation. The Salvation Army funds its programs through donations from the community.

Majors Bill and Lisa Dickinson received Associate of Arts degrees in Ministry from The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Crestmont, California, in 1993. Their early appointments included Prescott, Arizona, and North Las Vegas. They have served on Divisional Headquarters in three Divisions. In the Southwest Division they served together as Divisional Youth Leaders, and in the Northwest Division, Major Bill was the Program Secretary and Divisional Secretary, and Major Lisa led outreach programs to senior citizens and veterans. In February 2012, they were appointed to lead the Del Oro Division (Northern California and Northern Nevada) as Divisional Leaders.

Major Bill received a BS in Business Administration from Crown College, and is currently working on his MBA at Grand Canyon University. Major Lisa is participating in the Arrow Leadership program, a two-year Christian leadership development program.

In his spare time, Major Bill enjoys participating in sports, and is a life-long fan of Seattle sports teams. Major Lisa enjoys cooking and sewing. They have four children and five grandchildren, and are delighted to be grandparents.
