Every summer, hundreds of kids throughout The Salvation Army Northwest Division enjoy attending camp at one of our two locations – Camp Arnold (Eatonville, WA) and Camp Gifford (Loon Lake, WA). Both camps are located in beautiful rural environments, with the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and character-building programs.

In the tradition of The Salvation Army’s music programs – a few weeks at camp each summer are dedicated to music and theatre programs. These weeks pair the beauty of the outdoors with the creativity of arts programming. Camp sessions dedicated to music and theatre are an important outlet for kids and teens – many of their schools have limited arts instruction, or the cost of participating is prohibitive for their families. Being exposed to the arts gives them new opportunities and helps them develop diverse interests.

During music weeks, campers can improve skills on their instruments and experiment with new ones. As always, there is no charge for the instruments kids and teens use while taking lessons with The Salvation Army. While some campers may bring their own instruments, most borrow instruments from The Salvation Army. Throughout the week they practice for the weekend concert where they demonstrate what they’ve learned to friends and family.

During theatre weeks, the campers learn about all aspects of a theatrical performance – rehearsals, sets, costumes, makeup, photography, and more. Throughout the week, the campers work hard learning and perfecting the show. Then, the week culminates with a performance for friends and family. This year, all 35 campers at Camp Arnold were involved in the production – “A Mother for Neverland” (an adaptation of “Peter Pan”).

Weekly tuition at Camp Arnold and Camp Gifford is affordable for most families – a sliding scale (based on family income) is used to calculate the tuition. Plus, scholarships may be available through your local Salvation Army office by clicking HERE.
