The Salvation Army opened its newest Family Thrift Store in Vancouver, WA, on March 5. The new store at 11808 NE 4th Plain Boulevard replaces the store in Hazel Dell which closed last year.

“After having to close the Hazel Dell store in September, we are thrilled to open this new store which will include 20,000 square feet of great deals for the Vancouver community. We have had a great following in the Vancouver area, and we are looking forward to this further expansion and investment in Vancouver,” states Captain Dennis Earnhart, Administrator at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center.

The Salvation Army has a long tradition of operating successful Family Stores throughout the country. Each store, including the Vancouver store and its counterpart in Downtown Portland, are operated as part of The Salvation Army’s renowned Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC). The program, with its Portland-area headquarters on near the airport on NE 82nd Ave, receives all of its operating funds from the store. It is a six-month, residential program, offered for no cost to the participants. Last year, more than 1,000 men participated in the program, which includes physical, emotional, spiritual and professional drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

The new store, located in the Evergreen Plaza will have 20,000 sq. ft. of shopping space, with an additional area where donated items will be received, processed, and prepared for sale.

Merchandise will be added to the floor daily. With donations being collected at the stores in Portland and Vancouver, plus picked up at donor’s homes, there will be a steady flow of new products. The average “life” of an item donated to The Salvation Army is between 7- 14 days and most items are sold within 48 hours of delivery to the store. Every day, new merchandise is added to the sales floor.

Store shopping hours are 9am to 9pm, Sunday through Saturday. Donations will be accepted at the back of the store during store hours.
