The Salvation Army Northwest Division announces the appointment of Major Jonathan and Lieutenant Dawn Apuan to the Everett Corps. They replace Captains Jack and Dawn Smith, who were appointed to The Salvation Army Yakima Corps.

The news of their appointment didn't surprise the Apuans. As Salvation Army Officers, they expect to be reassigned throughout their careers. The commitment of being an Officer includes moving your family frequently, and accepting reassignments based on career development and filling the needs of The Salvation Army locations.

The Everett Corps is among the largest Corps in The Salvation Army Northwest Division. It serves more than 2,000 individuals per month. Among the variety of programs and services offered to the community are free community meals (four per week), after-school tutoring, homeless prevention and transitional housing, cold weather shelter, summer camp, and holiday food and toy assistance.

Major Jonathan was born in El Paso, TX, and lived with his family throughout the US and Asia. He attended the University of Texas, before enrolling in The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Crestmont, CA. He received an Associate of Arts degree in Ministry, and was commissioned as an Officer in June 1992.

After a summer assignment in the Marshall Islands, Major Jonathan served in many Corps throughout the western US, including Ft. Collins (CO), Colorado Springs (CO), Caldwell (ID), Beaverton (OR), Tualatin Valley (OR), Nampa (ID), Redlands (CA). He has spent the past few years in the Seattle area, working in the Divisional Youth Department, Seattle Temple in North Seattle, and the William Booth Center, a homeless and transitional shelter for men in downtown Seattle. In 2005, he received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from George Fox University in Newberg, OR.

Lt. Dawn was born in Morton, WA, and raised in the south Puget Sound area. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Biola University in La Mirada, CA, in 2005, majoring in Intercultural Studies, with a minor in Biblical Studies. She worked at The Salvation Army Corps in Puyallup, WA, before attending in The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Crestmont, CA, where she was commissioned as an Officer this past June.

In their spare time, the Apuans enjoy board games, music and theater, the outdoors, and exploring the Puget Sound with their three children and Maximus, their chocolate lab.
