Jonathan and Niki Woollin to lead community center, food bank, church and more

The Salvation Army welcomes Lieutenants Jonathan and Niki to the Longview-Kelso location. Prior to coming to Longview, the Lieutenants managed the Bozeman, MT, location for two years.

In Longview, they replace Captains David and Lola Davis, who were appointed to the Adult Rehabilitation Center in Oakland, CA. All Salvation Army Officers are frequently reassigned throughout their careers. The commitment of being an Officer includes moving your family frequently, and accepting reassignments based on career development and filling the needs of The Salvation Army locations.

“We are very happy to be in Longview,” said Lieutenant Jonathan Woollin. “We’ve been here about a month, and still learning the area. But the community has been so friendly and welcoming – we know we will enjoy it here.”

The Salvation Army Longview Corps has provided services to needy members of the greater Longview-Kelso community since 1922. In 2013, nearly 18,000 people were helped by The Salvation Army in the area. Programs include emergency assistance for food, rent and utility bills. Free lunch is offered every weekday; food bank is available to those who qualify. Free personal hygiene kits and pet food are also available. Holiday programs include holiday meals, food baskets, and toy donations.

In 2012, The Salvation Army opened “4 The Long View,” a motel and program to help adults make long-term improvements in their lives and transition to independent living. It provides opportunity and training, to help them break the cycle of homelessness, poverty, and despair. Candidates for the program are selected based on three criteria; need, willingness, and probability for success. Since opening, 18 people have successfully completed the program.

Lt. Jonathan is originally from Brisbane, Australia, and came to the United States in 2009. Lt. Niki is a native of Washington, and grew up in Olympia. They were married in 2009 in Spokane, and enrolled in the Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Crestmont, CA, the following year. They graduated with their Associate of Arts degree in Ministry in 2012.
