The Salvation Army in Puyallup will host its second annual Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, July 27. The money raised will provide scholarships for kids and teens to attend summer camp at Camp Arnold in Eatonville, WA.

Registration for the Walk-a-Thon is available now for $20 (adult) and $15 for kids and teens (ages ten to 18); kids age nine and younger are free to participate. Advance registration is available by calling The Salvation Army in Puyallup at 253-841-1491, or online at www.SalvationArmyPuyallup.org. Registration is also available on the morning of the event. All registered participants will receive a free Walk-a-Thon t-shirt.

The Walk-a-Thon route is the trail around the Bradley Lake Park (.9 miles). Participants are encouraged to collect “per loop” pledges, from donors who will sponsor the walker for a specific amount of money per loop. For example, a donor may sponsors a walker for $5 per loop; if the walker finishes five loops, the donor will pay $25. Or, a donor can simply sponsor a walker for a specific amount, regardless of how many loops are walked.

The money raised at the Walk-a-Thon will help fund scholarships for local kids to attend summer camp at Camp Arnold in Eatonville, WA.

It was established in 1966, and is owned and operated by The Salvation Army. It is located on 650 pristine acres, with a spectacular view of Mount Rainier, secluded meadows, and a breath taking wetland beaver habitat. It includes three miles of nature trails, canoeing on our peaceful lake, a challenge course, climbing wall, beautiful Nature Center, outdoor playing fields, modern cabins, indoor gymnasium, outdoor amphitheater, dining hall, large outdoor swimming pool, chapel, outdoor and indoor activity areas, and The Old Pumphouse Espresso.

Last year’s Walk-a-Thon helped fund scholarships for 82 kids and teens to attend Camp Arnold. “Obviously, our goal is to increase that number,” said Major Premek Kramerius. “There are many kids in South Pierce County who would love to attend a week of sleep-away summer camp, but their families simply cannot afford it.”

All programs and services of The Salvation Army are funded through the generous contributions of donors. Donors can support the Walk-a-Thon without attending it. Donations can be made in person at the service office (4009 9th Street SW, Puyallup, 98373) or online at www.SalvationArmyPuyallup.org. Be sure to designate your gift as “Walk-a-Thon.
