Sally’s House in Spokane Receives  National Social Services Award

The Salvation Army in Spokane is receiving national accolades – Sally's House was chosen to receive the 2014 National Social Services Award for Program Excellence and Achievement.   Sally’s House staff will receive the award at the National Social Services Conference in Florida later this Spring.

This week, The Salvation Army National Social Services Secretary, Major Darryl Leedom, will present a certificate to Sally’s House staff and leaders in Spokane to honor this achievement.  A reception will be held on Thursday, February 27, at 11am, in the Salvation Army Community Center Atrium. Sally’s House is an emergency receiving facility for children removed from their homes due to severe abuse, neglect, abandonment or criminal activity.  Children ages two to 12 years of age, are brought to Sally’s House by local law enforcement or Child Protective Services. Sally’s House provides a caring, safe and loving home for up to 18 children at one time. While at Sally’s House, children receive clothing, toys, nutritious meals, a regular schedule of activities, necessary counseling and therapy. Children are able to attend their school of origin or participate in preschool. They also receive tutoring and life skills assistance during their stay.  More than 2,700 children have been placed at Sally’s House since opening in 2002.

The Salvation Army has been helping the Spokane community since 1891, serving more than 40,000 people annually. Many families and children in Spokane continue to suffer and find themselves in situations they never imagined. The Salvation Army provides programs and support that change and transform lives.
