Thank You Letter Carriers
The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) conducted its 20th annual food drive to combat hunger last week May 12. As always, letter carriers collected non-perishable donations as they delivered mail along their postal routes.
It is the largest single-day food drive in the country, and is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
In Renton, WA, The Salvation Army was the beneficiary of collections at two local Post Offices.
The Letter Carriers who work at the Highlands and Cascades locations donated the items received to The Salvation Army food bank in Renton. This year, the community donated (and the Letter Carriers carried!) more than 42,000 pounds of non-perishable food.
"The timing of this donation is very important," reported Captain Chris Aird, Salvation Army Corps Officer in Renton. "As summer vacation approaches, and kids aren't eating lunch at school, families need more food for meals at home."
Thank you to the NALC and members of the Renton community.
