The Salvation Army Northwest Division confirmed today that it is considering the purchase of the old Electra Motel, located at 1744 Tenth Avenue, in Longview, WA.

Captain David Davis of The Longview Corps of The Salvation Army is managing the project. "We are conducting a thorough review of the building," said Captain Davis. "We consider all business details very seriously and will proceed only if the property fits with our mission." At this time, future use of the property has not been determined. A final decision regarding the purchase of the property is expected in the next 60 days.

The Salvation Army Longview Corps has provided services to needy members of the greater Longview/Kelso community since 1922. In 2010, more than 17,000 people were helped by the Longview Corps. Programs include emergency assistance for food, rent and utility bills. Free lunch is offered every weekday; food bank is available to those who qualify. Free personal hygiene kits and pet food are also available. Holiday programs include holiday meals, food baskets, and toy donations.

Donations are necessary for the Salvation Army to continue offering the services in Longview. Donations can be made in person at the Corps (1639 Tenth Avenue) or online at www.salvationarmynw.org.
