Special thanks to all who attended the annual luncheon in Vancouver, WA, “Compassion in Action” on Thursday, May 29.

     

Hosted by Majors Michael and Susan Nute, Corps Officers of The Salvation Army in Vancouver, WA, the room was filled with supporters of the work of The Salvation Army.

Majors Nute acknowledged several local companies and organizations with awards during the luncheon. Clark Public Utilities received the prestigious Others Award. The Others Award is given annually to an individual or group that exemplifies the spirit of Salvation Army founder William Booth.

    

Additional awards were presented to Washington Timbers FC and Skyview High School Key Club for each groups’ outstanding efforts with red kettles during the Christmas season. And John Marks received an award for exceptional service.

    

This year’s event featured a discussion with prominent members of the community on the topic of “compassion.” The discussion was led by Kelly Love Parker, former television news reporter and current President of Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. Many prominent business leaders joined the discussion led my Ms. Parker, including Brett Bryant, Vice President of Heritage Bank; John McDonagh, Publisher of Vancouver Business Journal; Ron Frederiksen, President of RSV Building Solutions; Jennifer Rhoads, President of The Community Foundation; and Major Susan Nute.

    

Tickets for “Compassion in Action” are still available. Individual tickets are $50 each. Tables are $500 and include seating for nine guests, plus one Salvation Army representative will join the table and share more about the organization.

Next year’s annual luncheon in Vancouver is scheduled for May 15, 2015, and will celebrate the 125 years of service by The Salvation Army in Clark County.
