The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 when William Booth decided to take his ministry into the streets of London where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. Today, his mission continues throughout the world. In King County, we are honored by the generous support of select donors who give substantial gifts annually (minimum $5,000) – to support The Salvation Army and continue its goal of meeting human needs without discrimination.

On Thursday, July 31, members of The Salvation Army William Booth Society in King County gathered at the home of Kelly and Judy Foss to enjoy sunshine and fellowship. The annual gathering of the high-level donors is an opportunity for the members to celebrate their common interest – supporting The Salvation Army.

The summer afternoon was ideal for a garden party at Kelly and Judy’s lovely home in Laurelhurst – with perfect views of watching the Blue Angels practice over Lake Washington. Kelly, who turned 101 years old this summer, was able to visit with guests in a shaded area of the patio. Despite his age and recent hospital stays, he was engaged and enthusiastic about welcoming guests into his home. Judy generously provided the food and drink for the event, and shared information about their home, gardens, and the Blue Angels.

This year, the William Booth Society is chaired by members Daniel C. and Cecelia Regis. While addressing other members at the reception, Dan said that chairing this group is “the most fun job he’s ever had.” He cited the work of The Salvation Army in the area, and how proud he and Cecelia are to represent this group of donors.

Thank you to all who attended this year’s reception.
