07 March 2013

Several families will be made warmer as cool temperatures extend into March, thanks to money raised by approximately 30 Seattle Country Day School second graders, who spearheaded an all-school fundraiser for The Salvation Army Warm Home Fund. The second graders will present their donations, collected in a red kettle, to Major Doug Tollerud, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Northwest Division. Puget Sound Energy will present a $50,000 corporate contribution.

The Salvation Army Warm Home Fund provides short-term emergency bill payment assistance to PSE customers facing financial difficulties throughout Western Washington. Since its inception in 1982, The Salvation Army Warm Home Fund, which receives donations from PSE owners, customers and employees, has helped more than 150,000 families in 11 Washington state counties where the utility provides electric and natural gas service.

During the 2011-12 heating season, PSE owners, customers and employees voluntarily contributed more than $551,000 to the Fund, which helped more than 3,600 families.
