The 2013 Red Kettle Campaign collected almost $136 million thanks to the support of donors and corporate partners across the country. The money, raised between November 28 and December 24, will help The Salvation Army provide food, shelter and social services to those in need throughout the year, not just during Christmas.

“The Salvation Army is humbled by the support from millions of Americans who put money in our kettles every year,” said Major Ron Busroe, community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army’s National Headquarters. “The Red Kettle Campaign is a crucial fundraising period for us, and the support we received will help us continue to provide services to more than 30 million people each year.”

Here in the Northwest, the results of the 2013 kettle campaign are sure to make a great impact during the New Year and beyond. Despite five fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas – which means fewer bell ringing days as well – donors throughout the Northwest gave generously.

The Northwest Division raised $4.2 million during the 2013 kettle season.”We are so thankful for the many people who drop spare change and bills into kettles,” said Major Doug Tollerud, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Northwest Division. “Every little bit helps, and really adds up.”

Major Tollerud also reported that, while the amount of income from red kettles is steady, it still accounts for less than 5% of our annual budget. “We serve more than 600,000 people throughout Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana every year,” he explained. “Thankfully, our donors support us year-round, so we can continue to provide services to those in need, whenever they need our help.”
