10th Annual campaign runs through August 8

Once again, Shopko stores will collect school supplies at its stores throughout the country, to help local kids prepare for the new school year. The store partners with The Salvation Army for this annual campaign, now in its tenth year.

The “Tools for School” program provides school supplies to low-income children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Beginning in mid August, school supplies are distributed by The Salvation Army based on community donations and are available while supplies last. Children are provided a pre-packaged bag of school supplies and each family is provided with one new backpack.

"Shopko is proud to partner with The Salvation Army once again on the 'Tools for School' program," said Peter McMahon, Shopko CEO. "Through the Shopko Foundation, we support projects that help students succeed in school and become self-sufficient adults. It's fundamental to their education that students have the supplies that they need to be ready to learn each day and that's why the 'Tools for School' project is so important. This year, in addition to collecting items at Shopko stores, we are excited to expand the program to all of our Shopko Hometown locations which will enable us to reach even more families in need."

"The Salvation Army is thankful for the support of Shopko and local citizens in this community-wide campaign" says Major Douglas Tollerud, Northwest Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. “It is so important that children from low income families can begin the school year with new supplies, just like everyone else. This helps them to fit in and encourages them to start the school year with a positive attitude. The community's generosity in making this happen is greatly appreciated!"

There are 18 Shopko stores throughout the Northwest Division (Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana). For a complete list of stores, click HERE.
