Seahawks Greg Scruggs to Speak at East King County Fundraising Breakfast

The Salvation Army Eastside will host its fourth annual fundraising breakfast on Thursday, April 23, from 7:30am to 9am, at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue (900 Bellevue Way NE). Money raised at the event will benefit The Salvation Army Eastside programs and services.

Seattle Seahawks Defensive End Greg Scruggs will present the keynote address at the breakfast. Mr. Scruggs graduated from University of Louisville and was drafted by the Seahawks in 2012. He is a native of Cincinnati, where he played for St. Xavier High School. In his keynote speech he will share his experiences on and off the field, and inspire guests with his insightful comments.

Also speaking at the event are Tony Ventrella (Digital Media Host for the Seattle Seahawks and SoundersFC) and King County Councilmember Jane Hague. Lieutenant Darryck Dwelle, director of The Salvation Army in East King County, will share an update of the work of the organization and the lives impacted.

The Salvation Army Eastside continues to be a valuable asset in the community. The programs and services offered each year continue to increase, due to the increase in need in the community. The Eastside location serves the less fortunate neighbors in Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Woodinville, and parts of Bothell.

Among the many programs offered by The Salvation Army is the free community supper. Each night (Monday through Friday), a home-cooked dinner is served at 5:30pm to anyone who wants to attend. Attendance at the supper averages 50 people per day. “Our community supper has become a gathering place for neighbors,” said Lieutenant Darryck Dwelle. “The meal helps them stretch their grocery budget, but also gives them a time of fellowship.”

Among other programs with increased attendance at The Salvation Army Eastside include the after-school homework tutoring, computer lab, and music lessons; summer camps for kids; rent and utility bill assistance; grocery bags of non-perishable foods; personal hygiene kits for the homeless; infant diaper and formula distribution; and Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
