The Salvation Army Renton Corps is pleased to partner with United Way of King County for another year of free tax prep. Qualifying residents can visit The Renton Rotary Food Bank (206 South Tobin Street) for help with filing taxes, completing FAFSA (application for student loans for college); applying for food stamps, health care, utility assistance, and more.

“This is an important service to the community,” said Captain Chris Aird, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army in Renton. “Filing taxes can be intimidating and confusing for many people, especially those who don’t speak English as their primary language. “

Households that earn less than $52,000, with tax returns that do NOT involve business taxes, rental income, or sale of property or stocks are eligible for this free service. In Renton, the services are offered on the following days and times:

  • Tuesdays 5-9pm - English, Vietnamese
  • Wednesdays 5-9pm - English
  • Sundays 10am-2pm - English, Cantonese, Spanish

Reservations are not accepted; clients are helped on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive early for best service, and bring the following materials with you:

  • W-2s or other statements for you and your spouse from ALL your employers
  • Photo ID (and your spouse’s photo ID if filing jointly
  • Social Security card or ITIN number and birthdates for everyone on your return
  • Any 1099 Forms (for income from interest, dividends, retirement, social security or unemployment)
  • Name, address and taxpayer identification number of child care provider if you pay for daycare
  • Records of student loan payments
  • Records of payments for educational expenses, such as college tuition and text books
  • Mortgage interest and property tax statements if you own a home
  • Bank account and routing numbers, for direct deposit
  • A copy of last year's tax return, if you have it
  • If filing jointly, both filer and spouse must be present to file electronically
