The Day of Caring is a nationwide annual tradition of the United Way. In Pierce County, Day of Caring will be held on Friday, September 19, and The Salvation Army is honored to host several volunteers for a special project.

The goal of Day of Caring is to “bring people together to build a stronger community.” By pairing volunteers with local non-profit organizations, they can complete projects that might otherwise not get done. United Way of Pierce County has connected The Salvation Army will a team of volunteers from University of Washington Tacoma. These students are sure to bring energy, strength, and enthusiasm to the project.

This year’s volunteer work at The Salvation Army in Tacoma will focus on the theme of recycling. Among the projects planned are to build and install recycling and compost centers throughout the campus -- the homeless shelter, food bank, and Corps building. Prep work will also begin on a greenhouse planned for the neighborhood garden.

“Thank you” to United Way of Pierce County and UW Tacoma for selecting The Salvation Army as a beneficiary of Day of Caring. Watch this site for photos of the work after the event.
