The Salvation Army Northwest Division confirmed today that it is continuing its consideration of the purchase of the Electra Motel, located at 1744 Tenth Avenue, in Longview, WA.

The project, which began in January 2011, is currently in The Army's standard evaluation process. The process involves review by the local Longview Corps, Northwest Divisional Headquarters, and Western Territory Headquarters. The project will move forward only with the approval of all levels of The Army, and with the consultation of the local Corps Advisory Board. A final decision is expected in late March.

Captain David Davis of The Longview Corps of The Salvation Army is managing the project. "The Army's approval process is thorough and thoughtful," said Captain Davis. "We will proceed with the project only after the complete assessment of the property and program."

During the review period, The Army is evaluating the physical aspects of the property, including Phase One Environmental Review, structural inspection, and licensing requirements. Concurrently, a program is being developed to match the best use of the building. Details about the program are also expected in late March.

The Salvation Army Longview Corps has provided services to needy members of the greater Longview/Kelso community since 1922. In 2010, more than 17,000 people were helped by the Longview Corps. Programs include emergency assistance for food, rent and utility bills. Free lunch is offered every weekday; food bank is available to those who qualify. Free personal hygiene kits and pet food are also available. Holiday programs include holiday meals, food baskets, and toy donations.

Donations are necessary for the Salvation Army to continue offering the services in Longview. Donations can be made in person at the Corps (1639 Tenth Avenue) or online at www.salvationarmynw.org.
