The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 when William Booth decided to take his ministry into the streets of London where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. Today, his mission continues throughout the world. In King County, we are honored by the generous support of select donors who give substantial gifts annually (minimum $5,000) – to support The Salvation Army and continue its goal of meeting human needs without discrimination.

On Sunday, December 15, members of The Salvation Army William Booth Society gathered to celebrate the Christmas season. They enjoyed a concert of festive Christmas music, featuring the iconic Salvation Army brass band, and shared fellowship during a holiday reception in the afternoon. This annual event is an opportunity for the members to celebrate their common interest – supporting The Salvation Army.

This year, the William Booth Society is chaired by members Daniel C. and Cecelia Regis. While addressing other members at the reception, Dan shared his first experience supporting The Salvation Army as a volunteer in Alaska in the mid 1970s. As an accountant with Price Waterhouse Coopers in Anchorage, he joined the local chapter of the Lions Club and volunteered as a bell ringer.

Through the years, Dan learned more about The Salvation Army. He eventually moved back to his native home, Seattle, and continued to support the organization. He is particularly impressed by the fiscal conservatism of The Salvation Army, and “the dedication of the people” who work there. As he grew in his career, his increased his financial support of the organization.

His wife, Cecelia, seconded Dan’s reasons for supporting The Salvation Army. “I have witnessed the tremendous commitment that everyone at Salvation Army has to making a difference in the lives of their clients. The Staff and the many volunteers give their time and heart to this cause.  I know that I am getting the most value and doing the most good with my donated dollars.”

Now retired, Dan continues to work with several businesses, guiding their investments and helping them make sound business decisions. He’s on the Board of Directors for Columbia Bank and CRAY Inc. He and Cecelia also support educational initiatives through the Seattle Foundation.

Thank you, Dan and Cecelia Regis, for your inspiring words and generous donations.
